The main aim

CLIC Startup Competition supports and awards the best business ideas and startups in the field of cultural heritage adaptive reuse inspired to the circular economy principles.

Our keywords: sustainable development, social innovation, ethical finance, safe tourism.

Our mission: empowering creativity and innovation to face societal challenges.

The opportunity

The Competition is aimed at supporting on the ground early-stage startups, informal teams and talented innovators.

A unique chance to interact with experts, promote their business ideas to public and private investors, accelerate and put them on the right track to start their business.

The award

The 5 most voted projects will access a mentoring and acceleration programme provided by Iniziativa Cube, a CLIC partner, to enhance the readiness level of their business ideas. The mentoring and acceleration services, worth 15,000 Euro, will take place from December 2020 to March 2021 and can be followed both physically and remotely. Winners will be supported in fine-tuning their business model, drawing up their business plan, investors’ scouting for fundraising.

5 Winners Awarded with a Mentoring Programme

The purpose of the Startup Competition is to award with four months of free mentorship the 5 best innovative and promising projects working on – but not limited to – these key areas.

Furthermore, the 5 winners will be rewarded by SEMED with:

  • a free membership premium profile for 12 months, in case of startups;
  • visibility in the CLIC showcase for 12 months for innovators and informal teams.

Submit your project on the CLIC Business Page on SEMED.

E.g., startups/ideas in the creative industry, including education and entertainment able to stimulate cultural heritage adaptive reuse projects. Their focus can include designing circular economy solutions for virtual/immersive experiences (e.g. Augmented Reality, virtual guides, etc.); raising awareness and knowledge of local communities in cultural heritage reuse, and engaging young audiences through educational and entertainment services (gamification etc).

E.g., startups/ideas oriented to social innovation for cultural heritage adaptive reuse, able to build up and strengthen the “heritage community”, bridging it with relevant stakeholders and possible funders. Their focus can include innovative fundraising activities/products; cooperative and co-created solutions/projects; bottom-up, participatory, collaborative and cooperative approaches for the conservation, valorization, maintenance and adaptive reuse of cultural heritage.

E.g., startups/ideas developing technological solutions aimed at circular cities and buildings. Their focus can include responsible use of resources in a lifecycle perspective; low-tech and nature-based solutions for cultural heritage; green energy solutions and technologies; management & treatment solutions for wastes reduction; virtualization and Industry 4.0 technologies for restoration, such as 3D scanning and 3D printing; data management tools.

E.g., startups/ideas dealing with innovative products and services for the development, reuse and regeneration of abandoned cultural landscape areas. Their focus will give special attention to rural, internal and mountain areas, villages and less accessible natural and cultural heritage. Startups /ideas should take into account also the impacts on the environment and local communities.

Preselection

Applicants will have an online interview with an independent referee to evaluate their commitment, their skills and the overall readiness and time to market. On 16th October, once closed the call, an online poll will be launched on CLIC Facebook page to vote the most brilliant idea.

The best 20 proposals will be admitted to the Pitch Competition and will take part in the 3 days online event from 25th to 27th November 2020.

Living Lab

The event will start with a Living Lab on 25th November, a unique occasion to bring together startuppers, experts, researchers, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and investors to work together on innovative creative entrepreneurship.

Our aim: identifying business models and solutions able to positively impact on cultural heritage and rural landscape.

Sharing ideas to co-create a better future.

Pitch competition

On 26th November, the innovators will get into the ring. The 20 finalist teams will have 36 hours to better define their business model and their pitch supported by business and startups experts.

On November 27th afternoon, the teams will present their Business Pitch to a qualified Jury, composed by international experts, entrepreneurs, public and private investors, which will identify the 5 winners, announced during the closing ceremony.
